The MASSB Minute

As 2024 draws to a close, we look back on a year of fighting poverty and supporting foster care, share ideas for thanking your donors, and remind boards to prepare their year-end metrics.

— Message from the Chair

A Year of Dedication and Progress

Greetings, everyone. As 2024 draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on an incredible year filled with dedication, collaboration, and progress. Throughout this year, we focused on pressing challenges like poverty, foster care, food insecurity, and housing instability, while celebrating the tireless efforts of volunteers, social workers, and advisory board members across Maryland. In the spirit of collaboration and learning from each other, our annual conference at Washington College offered many opportunities for inspiring discussions, practical workshops, and the powerful Poverty Simulation that deepened our understanding of the barriers faced by vulnerable populations. Moreover, the Lifting Lives Awards showcased innovative programs that have been making significant impact in their communities.

Throughout the year, we also celebrated important milestones, including the launch of our revamped website, strategic planning sessions, and community meetings that underscored the value of strong relationships with local Departments of Social Services. Each event brought us closer to our shared mission of creating supportive, inclusive communities. As we look ahead to 2025, including hosting next year's conference in Howard County, let us carry forward the lessons and momentum gained this year. I know that all of us are driven by compassion, strategic focus, and unwavering dedication. Hence, we will continue to lift lives and strengthen communities.

Best,
Tony

Say Thank You Before Year's End

Thanking businesses and individuals for their support is an important task for nonprofits. Donors who feel appreciated and part of the solution tend to give again and again. If you haven't said thanks throughout the year, it's not too late to do so. Add a note to your holiday greeting and start to grow your base of support. Don't forget to add the MASSB Foundation Tax ID #26-1192752.

Time to Prepare Your Year-End Metrics

Can you believe it's almost the start of another year? Time flies when you're helping your neighbors! This is a great time to make sure your records are in order. Friendly reminder that we will be asking for your data in January so that we can prepare the Foundation's tax return and celebrate our impact in 2024! (Note: Counties with local bank accounts or funds held by DSS will receive additional information in January.)
