RSVP for our October 3–4 conference on Poverty, learn what ALICE means for Maryland households, and see how MASSB, MASSBF, and MASSD fit together.
Greetings, everyone. Join us for our annual MASSB Conference on October 3–4, 2024, at Washington College in Chestertown, MD. As in previous years, this conference will bring together DSS Directors, advisory board members, and other key stakeholders from across Maryland to tackle the theme of "Poverty" through engaging panels, workshops, and a powerful Poverty Simulation. We are also thrilled to feature Colleen Webster as Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Mary Oliver, adding a unique dimension to our conference.
As we focus on the vital role of volunteering in bridging gaps and lifting lives, this conference will highlight and celebrate the impact of our collective efforts from a practitioner and volunteer perspective. In preparation for the conference, please do not forget to apply for the prestigious Lifting Lives Award to recognize exceptional community contributions. Furthermore, hotel reservations must be made by September 6 to secure the group rate. For more conference details and registration, visit our website. Let's come together to drive meaningful change and elevate our shared mission!
Best,
Tony

Of Maryland's 2,367,020 households in 2022… 10% earned below the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). 29% were ALICE — in households that earned above the FPL but not enough to afford the basics in the communities where they live. Together, 39% of households in Maryland were below the ALICE Threshold (poverty + ALICE divided by total households).
More than one-third of Maryland families do not earn enough to afford basic necessities!
