It's Social Work Month — hear what our advisory boards are saying about Maryland's DSS workers, grab a new Board Recruitment Checklist, and celebrate the launch of our redesigned website.
Greetings, everyone. We are approaching another important time of the year that offers many opportunities for both reflection and appreciation. As we know, March not only marks the beginning of spring, it also is Social Work Month. This time of the year offers an opportunity to emphasize the invaluable contributions of our social workers and the profound impact they have on our communities. In collaboration with our advisory boards across the state, we acknowledge and celebrate the tireless dedication of our social workers to uplift the most vulnerable among us. Daily, social workers address societal injustices and disparities, navigate complex systems, provide essential services, and offer compassionate support to individuals and families facing adversity. Because of their work and our focus on vulnerable populations, we have the unique opportunity to collaborate with social workers to make our communities a better place to live by addressing systemic challenges that hinder progress. Together, we can leverage our resources, expertise, and influence to empower social workers and enhance their capacity to serve those in need.
Finally, I am also thrilled to announce the launch of our new MASSB website, which will serve as a dynamic platform for communication, collaboration, and resource-sharing.
Best,
Tony
Here's what our Advisory Boards are saying about Maryland's DSS workers…
"I am deeply impressed by how invested our staff are in the many needs of our community, connecting with various partners, engaging in important community conversations, and participating in available opportunities to ensure that people in our county have access to what they need to experience life in all its fullness."
"I love our Social Workers because they help to create healthy unity in the family! And, because Social Workers do a great job of assisting families with gaining access to resources that positively impact health and safety."
"I know the department went above and beyond for families this year — supporting a family to find more stability in another state, a plane ride away, which just blows my mind!"
"As the Chair of a DSS Advisory Board, I am collaborating with social workers to address the needs of vulnerable populations. I am continually inspired by their exceptional dedication and constant efforts to support others. Their unwavering commitment to improving the lives of individuals and communities is evident in every aspect of their work. Their compassion, empathy, and advocacy in action drive positive changes and foster well-being in our community."
Recruiting new board members can be a big challenge, particularly for counties located in rural areas or where many nonprofits are competing for the same talent. You've used the strategic planning process to understand and develop goals to address the needs in your community. Similarly, you can be strategic in how you approach recruitment. Use the Board Recruitment Checklist to guide discussion and development of your plan.
